What to do or What Not to do

I have to say, when Professor Kramer first told our class that we would be blogging weekly for the whole semester, I was not too thrilled. As if it weren't already enough, she broke the news that we were not going to just be writing one, but TWO  blogs. I felt like I was getting kicked when I was already on the ground.  My whole life I always gave blogging a negative connotation, thinking blogs were just over exaggerated opinions on pointless topics like the new drama with the Kardashians.  However, as I browsed the internet examining and reading other blogs to use as samples for mine; my feelings about blogging quickly changed. I came to realize that there was a blog for almost any topic, and that some of them were actually very well written and interesting to read! Now eager to start writing a blog of my very own I began brainstorming topics that I was passionate enough to write about for a whole semester. After mentally going back and forth for a few days I finally came to a conclusion: sports or food.

Sports Title TBD: My whole life I have been an avid sports fan. Wether it be football, basketball, hockey, boxing, soccer,  or etc I love it all.  My favorite part about sports is that anything can happen at given moment; on or off the field.  My deep passion for sports mixed with the endless topics to discuss about in the sports world makes it the perfect blogging topic for me. Although I would love to talk about every sport in my blog, I plan on writing about 3 sports: Football, Baseball, and Hockey (mainly Later in the semester). I will not just be re-capping or stating stats from the game the night before, that would bore the reader to death. Instead my blog will include sports analysis,  information and my opinions on controversies in professional and collegian sports,  and breaking news in the sports world (trades, suspensions, injuries) and the impact that it will have on those teams involved. From Colin Kaepernick protesting the national Anthem to Teddy Bridgewater suffering a tragic knee injury that devastated so many Vikings fans nationwide, it will all be discussed in my blog.

Cooking Title TBD: Besides my family, food is the most important thing in the world to me. Not just because it keeps me alive, but the powers food possesses. I am not talking about super powers, although it would be pretty cool if a hamburger could fly around the room before being eaten. Instead, by "powers" I mean how food can bring cultures and people together. How one delicious bite can take you from sadness to happiness. How you can find your soulmate in the line at a coffee shop. Food is viewed as such a simple and minuscule item, but in reality symbolizes so much more. Enough about how great I think food is, its time for some substance. Because Food Channel won't give me my own show yet I do not have the luxury of traveling from country to country tasting the different flavors of the world. Therefore,  my options for this blog will be limited. However I believe State College will provide me with enough "flavor" to write about for the semester. For this blog I plan on reviewing different well known restaurants around State College, as well as a couple restaurants from my home town (Washington D.C.) while on academic breaks. I will include everything from service, waiting periods, taste of food, atmosphere; the whole 9 yards really. Additionally I will compare and contrast the restaurants I visit for the readers of my blog to use as advice when making decisions on where to eat around town. What I think could be really fun about this blog is that my peers could participate in the blog by recommending restaurants for me to eat at, or even join me for a meal ( (You can also join Professor Kramer, foods on me ;) ).

  1. I also love food and eating, so I really like your second idea. I would definitely read this weekly to learn about cool restaurants around State College.

  2. I think I really like the sports idea. Although it does seem a little broad right now, I think talking about the current events and analyzing them in your own way could be really interesting to read about.

  4. These ideas were absolutely delicious! As you can probably tell from my use of the word "delicious," I am a huge fan of your prospective food blog. Food is one of my favorite things on planet earth. Even when I am not hungry, I enjoy thinking about, smelling, and looking at all kinds of food. If you successfully visited and reviewed eating locations around State College, I would actually utilize this information to chose where to eat! That's a lot of power. I hope for my sake, and the sake of all other food lovers, that you choose to write about your culinary adventures!

Additionally, your sporting blog idea is interesting, but it would be difficult to find new topics to cover that are not already all over the news. Cook something up good with your food blog! That's just my two cents! Have fun and good luck!

  6. I think the food idea could be really cool. You could think about being a food critic when it comes to the dining halls and places on campus to make it really speak to the audience. College kids will want to know where the cheap and good food is; this blog could do a lot for Penn Staters!
